Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Painless is an independent Chrome extension developed and maintained as a personal project. Painless is a wellness tool — it is not a medical device, does not provide medical advice, and does not constitute healthcare or physiotherapy services.

2. Data we collect

Painless collects only the minimum information needed to function:

• First name — entered voluntarily by the user for personalisation purposes (e.g. displaying "Hi, Anna").
• Pain location and intensity — areas of discomfort and perceived intensity that the user marks on an on-screen body outline. This data is used to personalise break reminders and to display a personal pain history chart within the extension, allowing the user to track changes in their discomfort over time.

All data is stored exclusively on your device — in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local). Nothing is transmitted to any external server, third party, or cloud service.

We do not collect:

• Email addresses or any contact information
• Browsing history or any information about websites you visit
• Location, device identifiers, or IP addresses
• Usage analytics or behavioural telemetry

3. How we use your data

The data described above is used only to:

• Display your name within the extension interface
• Personalise break reminder suggestions based on the discomfort areas you have indicated

Your data is never used for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond core extension functionality.

4. Data sharing

We do not sell, share, rent, or otherwise disclose your data to any third party — ever. Because all data remains on your device, it is technically impossible for us to access it.

5. Data retention and deletion

Data persists in your browser's local storage until you remove it. You can delete all stored data at any time by:

• Uninstalling the Painless extension from Chrome, or
• Clearing the extension's storage via Chrome Settings → Privacy and security → Site data

We have no ability to delete your data on your behalf, as we have no access to it.

6. Permissions

Painless requests the following Chrome permissions:

• alarms — to schedule periodic break reminders
• notifications — to display break reminders at scheduled intervals
• storage — to save your preferences and pain indicators locally on your device

No permission is used for any purpose beyond what is described above.

7. Children's privacy

Painless is intended for adults who work at a desk. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under the age of 16.

8. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the effective date above and, where possible, notify users through the extension's Chrome Web Store listing. Continued use of Painless after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

9. Wellness disclaimer

Painless is a wellness tool designed to encourage regular movement breaks during sedentary work. It is not a substitute for professional medical or physiotherapy advice. If you experience persistent pain or discomfort, please consult a qualified healthcare professional.
